Uremic toxins contribute to the impairment of mitochondrial function that subsequently could result in organ failure. Mitochondrial dysfunction also plays an essential role in the pathogenesis of sarcopenia in chronic kidney disease patients. It may be feasible to assess the effect of mitoc hondr ial-t arget ed drugs to treat sarcopenia in patients with chronic kidney disease.
